They are the part of the bloom bud that is left after all the petals fall off, I believe. I think they would look awesome if you could get more and fill them up in your vase. Since they are shaped similar to pinecones you could take ribbon and tie them up and let them hang off of the corner of a fireplace mantle, maybe??? Tie groupings of three or four together and hang off of your christmas tree if you want to go for an entire botanical theme. The acorns are hilarious, I live in KY and have never seen any like that. Are you able to take the caps off? You could take the nuts themselves and glue to styrofoam balls, fill in with green spanish moss and wrap with a ribbon to make an acorn Christmas ball. Not sure what you could do with the caps just yet and if they are sturdy enough for you to use if you were to separate them... If they are in tact enough you could use them to cover a styrofoam wreath form and get some jute or burlap ribbon to hang the wreaths? Just some ideas, don't know if you like or not...Hollynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8012866078600535930.post-5535705122244147282010-11-18T17:05:42.682-06:002010-11-18T17:05:42.682-06:00I have collected some just like that from my neigh...I have collected some just like that from my neighbors house. I like the way you have them arranged in the vase with the green stuff, but agree about not filling it too full. Just a word of caution, you haven't noticed any creepy crawlies in with your acrons yet have you? I've heard that worms can show up after a couple days, but that baking them in a low temp oven for a few minutes can take care of that.

I'm having a "Go Nuts" Linky party on my blog next week, I would love it if you would stop by and link up this post!
http://embellishedbayou.blogspot.com/2009/11/am-i-nuts-you-decide.htmlEmbellished Bayouhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00130069958122685902noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8012866078600535930.post-57617883823807719362009-11-17T19:15:08.475-06:002009-11-17T19:15:08.475-06:00Holy cow, those are huge!

One word of warning though...I collected a ton of acorns, planning to make something out of them and left them in a bag in my garage. A week later I went out to get them and they were covered in little worms. Apparently, acorn worms are pretty common so you're supposed to bake them on low heat to kill the worms before you use them in your decor.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8012866078600535930.post-41571177031446084062009-11-17T13:57:55.378-06:002009-11-17T13:57:55.378-06:00p.s.
